Gardens by the Mandalay

Gardens by the Mandalay

The rooftop Gardens by the Mandalay was designed to be a serene outdoor retreat from the bustle of the commercial spaces that surround it. The outdoor sanctuary had become dated over the last few decades. It needed to be completely revamped in order to provide the experience desired, including gardens, landscaping, sitting areas, fountains, koi ponds, firepits, and extensive winding walkways to provide peaceful, beautiful access to wandering visitors.

Project Challenge

The sky-high project required sustainable materials and high levels of environmental responsibility. In choosing a material for the long, winding walkway, durability was a significant concern, as the walkway was designed to be applied just four inches from the concrete surface.

Thermory Solution

The designer chose our Benchmark Ash decking for the 23,000+ feet of winding walkway because of its stunning beauty, high durability and our commitment to responsibility. Thermory products provided LEED points toward certification because of their solar reflectivity index. Our Benchmark Ash products come with a 25+ year rot-resistance rating for Class 1 Durability. Thermory products are both low maintenance and beautiful, providing a naturally stunning aesthetic to complement the gorgeous surrounding features.

Hot Feet? No Way!

The Solar Reflectivity Index not only provides LEED points, but helps make this deck safe and comfortable even for bare feet!

A Beautiful Landscape

The rooftop gardens showcase many wonderful elements and features. This walkway not only provides access to all of them—because of its beautiful design and material—it’s one of them in and of itself!

“We wanted to use a sustainable product that was long-lasting with minimal maintenance through the year. Our research said modified wood was the way to go.”
