The Thermory team is exactly like our products: carefully sourced, clean, responsible, natural, and completely unequalled.
Hey, we told you we’re consistent.

What is your favorite quote?
My grandfather was a painter. He died at age eighty-eight, he illustrated Robert Frost’s first two books of poetry and he was looking at me and he said, ‘Harry, there are two kinds of tired: there’s good-tired, and there’s bad-tired.’ He said, ‘Ironically enough, bad-tired can be a day that you won. But you won other people’s battles, you lived other people’s days, other peoples agendas, other people’s dreams and when it was all over there was very little “you” in there, and when you hit the hay at night, somehow you toss and turn–you don’t settle easy.’ He said, ‘Good-tired, ironically enough, can be a day that you lost. But you don’t have to tell yourself, ’cause you knew you fought your battles, you chased your dreams, you lived your days, and when you hit the hay at night, you settle easy–you sleep the sleep of the just, and you can say “take me away.”‘ He said, ‘Harry, all my life I’ve painted. God, I would’ve loved to be more successful, but I painted and I painted, and I am good-tired and they can take me away. -Harry Chapin — Singer
If you could take any famous person (dead or alive) to lunch – who would it be?
My dad, Peter Challinor. He worked in the wood industry all his life and knew everyone. He was an incredible role model and taught me everything I know about wood–about selling and about being honest and doing the right thing. I would like to have lunch with him one more time and tell him how much I love and admire him.
What is the one thing about you that may surprise people?
I performed for two years in our kids’ local elementary school “Variety Show”, where the parents put on costumes and sing and dance to popular songs with made-up lyrics as a charity event to raise money for the school. One year the theme was “fairy tales” and I wore tights and dressed up as an elf-cobbler, singing and dancing to the tune of “Blue Suede Shoes” by Elvis. It surprised a lot of people.
How do you like to spend your days off?
There are no off days for the hard-working Thermory crew, but when I have time on a Saturday afternoon I take the dog (a flat-coated retriever) for a long walk to the beach, walk up the beach for 30 minutes. throwing the ball in the water about a hundred times for the dog, stop at the coffee shop for a latte, and then walk home.
What is the best part about your job?
I love the glowing and enthusiastic responses we receive from customers after their Thermory decks have been installed. When we ship out a job, I know that the customer is going to be thrilled with the final product, but I never get tired of hearing from customers how much they love Thermory. It is kind of like picking out exactly the right Christmas gift for a friend and you know they are going to be really excited, but it is still great to see the smile on their face when they finally open it.

If you could take any famous person (dead or alive) to lunch – who would it be?
I answered this question for the hockey program when I was a high school freshman and my answer is still the same – my grandfather. He passed away just a few days before my 18th birthday. It would be nice to chat with him now as a parent, business owner, adult – slightly experienced at life since I only knew him as child.
Oh, and Steve Jobs. I’m his #1 fan.
What is the one thing about you that may surprise people?
I’m easy to work with. The people that would be surprised by this answer find no relevance to the answer of question 1.
How do you like to spend your days off?
In the summer, I spend as much time in my pool as I can whether its day or night – night swims with the heater on are the best! My son and I love going for hikes in the woods, walks and throwing frisbees. My love for playing hockey has been born again through my son as he’ll be starting the local beginner hockey program this year and I’ll be on the ice with him. I enjoy traveling to see our friends in Estonia and do my best to include some other stops along the way in other parts of Europe. Italy has been my favorite so far. On the lazy side of things, I love binge watching Netflix – my current obsession is Shameless…. I’m not much of a reader, I retain better if I’m listening so I enjoy audio books, typically business related on flights while I’m traveling.
What is the best part about your job?
I truly enjoy the people I work with, our team just “gets it”! We have a vision for the future and we have no use for wasting time talking about what could be or the idea that we should have tried last year. We see it, we do it, we plan it, make it and own it. We are a talented group of individuals that live for tomorrow by working hard today. Its all made possible because we believe in each other!

“Maybe it meant something. Whatever it meant.” -Hunter S. Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” -Henry David Thoreau
If you could take any famous person to dinner (dead or alive) to lunch – who would it be?
My first glimpse at Vittorio Sella’s work was his photograph of “Panorama of the Baltoro Glacier with Mitre Peak, Mustagh Tower, and K2 in the background. 1909” followed quickly by “K2 with Balti Porters on the Godwin Austen Glacier, Karakoram. 1909” I then found myself searching frantically for anything else I could find of his which led me to the book “Summit” which is a 30 year history of Vittorio Sella’s work published by Aperture. Vittorio’s passion for mountaineering and photography led to some of the most iconic and influential photo’s to date that many still use as reference when planning climbing routes. The ability to dig into his experiences would be like unearthing a lost treasure.

How do you like to spend your days off?
Hanging out with my daughter, she is cooler than anyone else I know. In the summer we love to go swimming, play outside, explore new places, especially farmers markets and flea markets. She just experienced her first true winter as we have been southern girls for a while, but she loves anything to do with the snow. However, she has zero concept of how cold it is, she could play outside for hours barefoot I swear. But most of all we love to have our own special dance parties for two, I have danced with her since she was a baby and she still loves to be spun around!
