A water- and acrylate based exterior paint, produced by Teknos, a 70 year-old Finnish company.
IS THE FINISH HARMFUL? WHAT IF MY DOG (OR KID) LICKS IT?+
No, it is water-based.
HOW IS IT INSTALLED? CAN I GLUE IT ON THE WALL? WHAT KIND OF GLUE? NAIL IT? ARE SS FASTENERS REQUIRED?+
Indoors, product should be installed with nails or screws. SS fasteners are not required.
CAN IT BE INSTALLED ON TOP OF CURRENT PANELING?+
No - standard wood installation practices should be followed.
CAN I SEAL IT TO KEEP THE FINISH FROM COMING OFF?+
DO THE BOARDS NEED TO BE SPACED APART AT ALL? IS THERE ANY SPACE INSIDE THE T&G LIKE YOU HAVE WITH THE C20 AND PF2 PROFILES TO ALLOW FOR EXPANSION?+
For very wet areas it is optional to use a 1mm gap between boards.
HOW LONG WILL THE FINISH LAST?+
3-5 years without any major change in appearance.
CAN IT BE REFINISHED?+
It can be refinished, but not with the same multi-layer Drift finish.
DOES IT NEED TO BE SCREWED? ARE SS FASTENERS NEEDED?+
It can be nailed with a brad nail or screws, but only stainless steel.
SINCE THE SPRUCE IS SO STABLE, DOES THERE NEED TO BE AIR SPACE BEHIND THE CLADDING?+
Air space is always needed to avoid moisture accumulating behind the boards.
DO I NEED TO TREAT THE ENDS? SHOULD I OIL THE BACK OF THE CLADDING?+
No need to treat the ends. Back side is already oiled. Cuts should be sealed with touch up paint or sealer.
WHEN I AM INSTALLING ON TOP OF FURRING STRIPS, HOW FAR APART CAN I PUT THE FURRING?+
16“ spacing is recommended.
IS THE BRUSHED SURFACE MORE LIKELY TO CAUSE SPLINTERS?+
No, the soft wood is what splinters and this has been brushed away.
DOES THE BRUSHING AFFECT THE DURABILITY? IS THERE ANY DURABILITY TESTING ON A BRUSHED PRODUCT? DOES THE BRUSHING MAKE IT MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO DEVELOPING MOLD/FUNGUS? DOES IT AFFECT THE FIRE RESISTANCE?+
Only if the deck is not maintained properly. Regular yearly cleaning is important to remove dust and debris that might gather in the shallow areas.
HOW IS DRIFT DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR BARN WOOD? DOES IT LAST LONGER? IS IT MORE STABLE? IS IT MORE SUSTAINABLE?+
Our key features are consistent supply, unique colors, dependable stability, no imbedded metals and rot resistance; these are all things that real barn wood products do not provide.
